- Calabria is located in the south of Italy, in the ‘toe’
- Close to Sicily with the strait of Messina dividing the two
- Very mountainous region which is good for wine production as has a lot of slopes
- Dry and windy climate
- Significant for its local grapes
- Soil is typically rich in salt and minerals
The Grapes of Calabria
- Native grapes include:
- White: Greco Bianco, Pecorello, Malvasia and Montonico Bianco
- Red: Gaglioppo, Magliocco and Greco Nero
- Also grow a lot of the more prolific Italian grapes such as Sangiovese and Aglianico
